Optical component, module, and subsystems vendor Oplink Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPLK) says it will use ECOC 2013 in London next week to launch a DWDM CFP optical transceiver for metro 100-Gbps applications.

UPDATEDOptical component, module, and subsystems vendor Oplink Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPLK) says it will use ECOC 2013 in London next week to launch a DWDM CFP optical transceiver for metro 100-Gbps applications.

Oplink says it built its 100G metro DWDM CFP transceiver using “mature, mass-produced optical components.” The module leverages Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation (MLSE) digital signal processing technology, as well as a metro-optimized PHY from MultiPhy. UPDATE While MultiPhy has discussed development of a coherent PHY for the metro (see "MultiPhy details 100-Gbps metro coherent DSP transceiver plans"), the MP1100Q/MP1101Q chipset Oplink has used is based on direct detection, according to Neal Neslusan, vice president of marketing and sales at MultiPhy.

"Oplink's advanced 100G Metro DWDM CFP uses a direct detection receiver with digital signal processing technology supported by our partner MultiPhy,” explained Dr. Rang-Chen Yu, Vice President of Business Development of Oplink. “This technology enables effective compensation for fiber chromatic dispersion and ISI [inter-symbol interference] signal distortions, and provides an attractive cost/performance balance, ideal for high-volume metro DWDM transport, such as in inter-data center connection, enterprise, and broadband mobile back-haul networking applications."

"We are very pleased that Oplink has chosen MultiPhy as its partner to develop the metro DWDM transceiver module solution," said Neslusan. "We are confident that this lower cost solution will greatly accelerate 100G deployments to meet growing bandwidth demand."

Oplink will display the 100G Metro DWDM CFP transceiver, alongside the company’s extended reach 10x10G 40-km CFP and long reach 100G LR4 CFP2, its latest multicast switch, WSS, amplifiers, passive devices, and other transceivers, at Booth 514.
