GTS jumps to 100G in Central and Eastern Europe via Ciena

GTS Central Europe has decided not to mess with success and has turned again to Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ: CIEN) for its latest network upgrade, a move to 100-Gbps optical transmission. The network operator, which supplies integrated telecommunications and data center services throughout Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), has deployed Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform as part of the fiber-optic network enhancement.

GTS Central Europe has decided not to mess with success and has turned again to Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ: CIEN) for its latest network upgrade, a move to 100-Gbps optical transmission. The network operator, which supplies integrated telecommunications and data center services throughout Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), has deployed Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform as part of the fiber-optic network enhancement.

Ciena has had a lot of luck with GTS Central Europe. The carrier has deployed the system house’s 4200 platforms (see “GTS CE selects Ciena CN 4200 FlexSelect for network upgrade”),CoreStream Agility Optical Transport System (see "GTS Energis upgrades core and metro networks with Ciena"), and various other packet networking platforms in its network. This latest equipment purchase will see the 6500 support 100-Gbps coherent transmission across high-traffic routes in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany at distances of 1400 km without regeneration.
