ZTE Corp. (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ) revealed just before the holidays that it has supplied optical transport equipment for an upgrade to the backbone fiber-optic network of T-Mobile Austria, a Deutsche Telekom subsidiary. The upgrade brings 100-Gbps speeds to the network, up from 10 Gbps.

The new systems rely on polarization-multiplexed quadrature phase-shift keying (PM-QPSK) modulation, coherent detection, and soft-decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) to support the 100-Gbps data rates. The new equipment also offers a Wavelength Switched Optical Network (WSON)/GMPLS control plane and mesh networking support.

"The entire network was upgraded rapidly and ran stably,” said Xu Ming, ZTE Bearer Network general manager. “This demonstrates our capability to deploy 100G channels into an existing network.”
