European cloud services provider Interoute and Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) have announced that Interoute will offer wide availability of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) services supported by Infinera’s DTN platform.

European cloud services provider Interoute and Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) have announced that Interoute will offer wide availability of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) services supported by Infinera’s DTN platform.

Interoute has used Infinera’s DTN on its pan-European network for four years (see “Interoute selects Infinera, Ciena for Pan-European network expansion”). The mesh and route-diverse network comprises 60,000 km of lit fiber that connects 102 cities in 30 countries. Major points of presence include Stockholm, Sicily, Moscow, Madrid, London, and Istanbul, among others. The network connects 9 hosting data centers and 32 collocation centers, as well as connections to 140 additional third-party data centers across Europe. Interoute uses the fiber-optic network to support voice, video, computing, and high-capacity international data bandwidth and network infrastructure services – now including 100 Gigabit Ethernet.

"Interoute and Infinera have worked together to integrate industry leading technology for a number of years," said Matthew Finnie, CTO at Interoute. "The ability to adapt our existing Infinera DTN network to 100GbE next-generation services demonstrates the inherent value of the Infinera architecture. It protects our investment for the future services that we need to provide our customers to stay competitive."

"Interoute's network is used by major incumbents and service providers throughout Europe," said Chris Champion, vice president, EMEA sales at Infinera. "As one of Infinera's leading customers worldwide, we are excited to play a key part in not only increasing capacity on Interoute's network but also working closely with Interoute to grow its network footprint with Infinera's solutions. The Infinera DTN has delivered for Interoute a cost-effective, high capacity network for its customers in very short time frames."
