Anritsu Co. has released an upgraded version of its ACCESS Master field portable optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) for field technicians, engineers, and contractors.

Anritsu Co. has released an upgraded version of its ACCESS Master MT9083 series field portable optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) for field technicians, engineers, and contractors.

Improvements include a larger, higher-resolution 7-inch TFT display for better indoor/outdoor performance, particularly in direct sunlight. Meanwhile, new function keys below the display provide shortcuts to switch between trace and event table views or jump from one event to the next.

Optical performance enhancements include up to 150,000 data points for accurate mapping of events, dead zones of less than 1 m (3 ft), and dynamic range up to 46 dB. These features make the MT9083 series OTDR the go-to instrument for fiber evaluation in a variety of networks, Anritsu asserts, including premises, access including PON-based FTTx networks with spits as high as 1x128), metro, and core.

Anritsu also has improved the OTDR’s dynamic range and performance of mid-range pulsewidths, which eliminates the need to test at multiple pulsewidths. All models now feature user-selectable high-resolution or enhanced range operation to enable users to customize the unit to their needs. Power meter, stabilized light source, loss test set, and connector inspection microscope options are available as well.

In addition, Anritsu has reduced the unit’s weight to 5.7 lbs (2. 6kg) including battery (battery life is now up to 12 hours) while increasing its operating temperature range.
