Enterprise fiber-optic transport system developer XKL, LLC has introduced the DarkStar DSM, an optical transport system designed to provide “hands-free” configuration and provisioning of data rates and numbers of channels.

The DSM product line supports high-bandwidth capabilities starting with a minimum of 20 Gbps of capacity. XKL says the platform is easy to deploy by service providers and enterprises.

The new platform features a fully integrated system architecture, managed through a router-type interface, in a compact, highly robust single rack unit, XKL asserts. The platform is designed so that users do not require optical engineering expertise. It also runs on less than 100 W per unit and can be deployed in under one hour, XKL adds.

“We wanted to provide enterprise and small service providers the flexibility to light their own fiber with a highly efficient optical transport platform that delivers what companies realistically need today,” states Len Bosack, CEO of XKL. “The DSM platform, based on our award-winning DarkStar Optical Transport System design, is the ideal platform to enable companies of nearly any size the ability to light and manage optical networks more efficiently.”
